Fibonacci series is a mathematical sequence that gives out a fractal proportion(golden ratio). The square color fields in the painting follow a fractalized portion. Fractals play an important role right from cell division to computer codes. I think as humans we are drawn towards pattern in one way or another. The fibonacci proportion has been used in arts from early Greek architecture to renaissance painting and to modernist art. For this reason these numbers are called the divine numbers. The golden spiral is a spiral drawn based on this ratio. As we know historically that color field painting has been the quintessential movement to put modernist space in forefront. It shouted “color is not in the space, color is space”. I want to take this notion into the realm of a mathematical system where colors occupy and created spaces based on a specific mathematical system.
