This series of paintings acts a journal of various configurations of the elements of space and their results. Each new entry in the journal adds more comprehension to the possibilities of the formal elements. I am also interested in the issue of color field painting's hostility towards other formal elements of space. Historically, color field painting has been leaning towards perpendicular spaces. Perpendicularity is a trope of the grid. I am using diagonals as a geometrical and ideological device to transverse through that space. The use of diagonal as an ideological device dates back to Russian constructivism (El Lissitsky’s Beat the whites with the red wedge). The diagonal creates action in the rigid grid space. I am trying to work in between the spaces of color fields and the movement created by the diagonal.
